Throughout my coaching and training career, I’ve sat down with many professionals who have often asked me the same question. The wording and reasons might not always be the same, but the solution that they are all looking for surely is. The question is, “Why have I not succeeded in my business when I have put in so much time, effort, and hard work?“ This is a very common and reasonable question, and it can be extremely frustrating and exhausting for those who have been trying to answer it for years.
Now everyone’s situation and past are different, but one of the messages that I try to convey is based on a three-letter word that if adopted, can change everyone’s mindset instantly. That word is YET. You see, when someone says, “I haven’t succeeded in my business” I come back with the word “YET”. When someone says, “I can’t figure this out”, I say, “YET”. When someone says, “My goals and strategies aren’t working”, I tell them, “YET”. This one, powerful word can change everything! It will change how you think, how you approach your business and your life, and how you behave or react to other people and situations.
We always have to try and remember that where we are right now is not where we will be 6 months from now, one year from now, or ten years from now. Life is all about learning, getting better each day, adapting to change, and doing whatever needs to be done to succeed, no matter how long it takes. When you use the word “YET”, you are allowing yourself to be imperfect. You are thinking long-term, and giving yourself something to look forward to down the road. You are accepting the fact that you are not where you want or need to be, but that you will not stop until you get there.
Using the word “YET” always gives you something else that is extremely important – hope. Without hope, we cannot dream. Without dreams, we cannot create and reach goals. Without attaining our goals, we cannot reach our true potential and success. We need hope in all areas of our lives, as it is the one intangible element that if we believe strongly enough, will bring very tangible results.
When trying to succeed in business and in life, don’t sell yourself short, and don’t beat yourself up when it comes to what you still haven’t accomplished. Remember to use the word “YET” after the messages that you send yourself, because the journey is not over. There is still more of your story that remains to be written. Sometimes success is based on a little bit of luck, meeting the right people, a lot of good timing, and being in the right place at the right time. Allow things to play out in your favor. Always have the right mindset and action plan to make things happen for you; put yourself in the best position to win. Always do your best and do the right thing. The rest will take care of itself. Your time will come. It just might not have happened YET!
